Ingredients

For the Fritter Batter
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder ensure it's fresh for proper rising
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon for flavor
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg for warmth
  • ½ teaspoon salt to enhance flavor
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • ½ cup granulated sugar for sweetness
  • ½ cup milk room temperature
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter melted
  • 2 cups apples peeled, cored, and finely diced
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar sifted
  • 2 tablespoons milk adjust for desired consistency
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract for flavor

Method

Prepare the Fritter Batter
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the sifted flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined. This ensures even distribution of the leavening agent and spices.
  3. In another bowl, whisk the egg and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy. This incorporates air into the mixture, which helps the fritters rise.
  4. Add the milk and melted butter to the egg mixture, whisking until combined.
  5. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to tough fritters.
  6. Fold in the diced apples, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
Bake the Fritters
  1. Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop heaping tablespoons of the batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving space between each fritter for spreading.
  2. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the fritters are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  3. Once baked, remove from the oven and let cool on a cooling rack for about 5 minutes before glazing.
Prepare the Glaze
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the sifted powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust the milk quantity to achieve your desired glaze consistency.
  2. Drizzle the glaze over the warm fritters using a spoon or a piping bag for a decorative touch.
  3. Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes before serving.
