How to Make Christmas Meringue
  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Beat the egg whites in a clean, dry bowl on medium speed until foamy.
  3. Add cream of tartar to the foamy egg whites and continue beating until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually introduce the sugar by adding one tablespoon at a time and beat until stiff, glossy peaks form.
  5. Fold in the vanilla extract gently using a spatula.
  6. Divide the meringue into bowls if using colors and fold in the gel food coloring carefully.
  7. Pipe the meringue onto your prepared baking sheet using piping bags fitted with star tips.
  8. Sprinkle with cocoa powder or holiday-themed sprinkles if desired.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 1.5 hours, then leave inside for an additional hour to cool.
  10. Store your fully cooled meringues in an airtight container.
