Ingredients

For the Sauce
  • 12 oz cranberries use fresh or frozen for best results
  • ¾ cup sugar adjust according to your sweetness preference; honey can also be a great alternative
  • ½ cup orange juice fresh-squeezed enhances the flavor wonderfully
  • ½ cup water keeps the mixture from burning while cooking
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest contributes a delightful citrus aroma and flavor boost
  • 1 stick cinnamon optional for added warmth

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan

Method

How to Make Classic Cranberry Sauce
  1. In a medium saucepan, mix together the cranberries, sugar, orange juice, water, and orange zest. If you enjoy a hint of warmth, toss in the cinnamon stick for extra flavor.
  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring gently but occasionally until the cranberries start to pop.
  3. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the sauce thickens.
  4. After removing the pot from heat, taste your sauce and adjust sweetness by adding more sugar or a splash of water.
  5. Allow the sauce to cool completely in the saucepan before serving.
