Ingredients

For the Donuts
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour a key base for the donuts, ensuring a light and fluffy texture.
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder helps the donuts rise perfectly as they bake.
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda works alongside baking powder for added lift and lightness.
  • ½ teaspoon salt enhances the flavors and balances the sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon adds a warm, aromatic spice that complements the maple.
  • ½ cup brown sugar delivers a rich sweetness that pairs beautifully with the maple flavor.
  • 1 large egg binds the ingredients together and contributes to a moist texture.
  • ½ cup milk keeps the batter smooth and adds moisture to the donuts.
  • ½ cup sour cream adds richness and ensures the donuts are tender.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract infuses warmth and depth of flavor into the batter.
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter gives a rich, buttery flavor and moisture to the donuts.

How to Make Maple Glazed Donuts
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan with nonstick spray or melted butter.
  2. Whisk together the dry ingredients in a medium bowl: flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon until well combined.
  3. Combine the wet ingredients in a large bowl, whisking together brown sugar, egg, milk, sour cream, vanilla extract, and melted butter until smooth and creamy.
  4. Stir the dry ingredients gradually into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut pan, filling each mold about ⅔ full.
  6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the donuts spring back when touched lightly.
  7. Cool the donuts in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Melt butter and maple syrup together in a saucepan over medium heat until warm and fragrant.
  9. Stir in powdered sugar off the heat until the glaze is smooth and pourable.
  10. Dip the tops of each donut into the glaze and return them to the rack, allowing the glaze to set for at least 10 minutes before serving.
