  • 1 cup sour cream room temperature
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup can be substituted with cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds plus extra for garnish
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder for flavor
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder for flavor
For the Topping
  • 1 cup buttered breadcrumbs use fresh or store-bought
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted

Method
 

Prepare the Chicken
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). This ensures that the chicken cooks evenly.
  2. Season the chicken breasts with salt and black pepper on both sides. This will enhance the flavor of the chicken.
  3. Place the seasoned chicken breasts in a greased baking dish, ensuring they are spaced evenly.
Make the Sauce
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the sour cream, cream of chicken soup, poppy seeds, garlic powder, and onion powder. Whisk until smooth and well combined.
  2. Spread the sauce evenly over the chicken breasts in the baking dish. This will keep the chicken moist and flavorful during baking.
Prepare the Topping
  1. In a separate bowl, mix the buttered breadcrumbs with melted butter until well combined. This will create a crunchy topping.
  2. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the sauce-covered chicken. This adds texture and flavor to the dish.
Bake the Chicken
  1. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. This helps to steam the chicken, keeping it tender.
  2. After 25 minutes, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until the breadcrumbs are golden brown and the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).
