Making the Rolls
- Mix dry ingredients. In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, granulated sugar, active dry yeast, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Combine wet ingredients. In another bowl, whisk together warm milk, melted butter, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and the egg.
- Combine ingredients. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes.
- Let rise. Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1–1½ hours.
- Prepare the filling. In a bowl, mix softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until smooth.
- Roll the dough. Gently punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a 16×12-inch rectangle.
- Shape the rolls. Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough into a log and slice into 12 equal rolls.
- Preheat and bake. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the rolls for 20–25 minutes.
- Make the frosting. In a mixing bowl, beat softened cream cheese and butter until smooth.
- Frost and serve. Once the rolls have cooled slightly, frost them with the cream cheese frosting and serve warm.
