  • 5 cups bread cubes day-old or lightly toasted bread helps create the perfect texture
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese feel free to substitute with your favorite cheese for a twist

  • 1 cup diced vegetables optional; bell peppers, onions, or spinach add color and nutrition

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking dish
  • Skillet
  • mixing bowl

Method

Directions
  1. Brown the sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into crumbles until fully cooked and browned. Drain excess grease and set aside.
  2. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. Layer the bread cubes evenly across the bottom.
  3. Sprinkle the browned sausage over the bread layer, followed by shredded cheddar cheese. Spread evenly.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, salt, and black pepper. Stir in any vegetables if using.
  5. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the casserole layers. Gently press down with a spatula to help the bread absorb the mixture.
  6. Cover the dish with foil and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) before baking.
  8. Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes until golden brown on top and set in the center.
  9. Once baked, let it cool slightly before slicing to make serving easier.
