- Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat until melted and shimmering.
- Sauté chopped onion until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Incorporate chopped cabbage and stir well to coat it with the buttery mixture.
- Cook the cabbage down for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Pour in the chicken or vegetable broth.
- Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes.
- Cover the skillet and let it simmer for 15–20 minutes, until the cabbage is tender.
- Uncover the skillet, add the apple cider vinegar, and stir well.
- Simmer uncovered for 2–3 more minutes to reduce excess liquid.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed before serving.
