How to Make Valentine Cookies
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until creamy and smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
- Add the vanilla extract and salt, mixing until combined.
- Gently stir in the egg yolk to add moisture to the dough.
- Gradually incorporate the all-purpose flour, scraping down the bowl as needed.
- Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a floured surface, roll the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick.
- Use cookie cutters to cut shapes from the dough and place them on the baking sheets.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
- Melt dark and white chocolate wafers in separate bowls until smooth.
- Dip each cooled cookie halfway into the melted chocolate, letting excess drip off.
- Immediately add sprinkles or nonpareils on the dipped side before the chocolate sets.
