How to Make Valentine Cookies
  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until creamy and smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
  2. Add the vanilla extract and salt, mixing until combined.
  3. Gently stir in the egg yolk to add moisture to the dough.
  4. Gradually incorporate the all-purpose flour, scraping down the bowl as needed.
  5. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill in the refrigerator for 15 minutes.
  6. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. On a floured surface, roll the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thick.
  8. Use cookie cutters to cut shapes from the dough and place them on the baking sheets.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
  10. Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
  11. Melt dark and white chocolate wafers in separate bowls until smooth.
  12. Dip each cooled cookie halfway into the melted chocolate, letting excess drip off.
  13. Immediately add sprinkles or nonpareils on the dipped side before the chocolate sets.
